A street in the north of São Paulo is covered with drawings alluding to the World Cup in Qatar. There have been seven editions of the World Cup, that is, since 1998, the neighbors of Rua Capitão Siqueira Barbosa, in Parada Inglesa, have gathered to paint the asphalt with illustrations of the Brazilian flag, the World Cup mascot, and Brazilian soccer stars. . The 250-meter street, which looks more like a large carpet, also has the image of Seninha – a character that honors the Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna and Pelezinho, a comic book character created by Mauricio de Sousa based on the soccer star Pelé in your childhood. There are still paintings of the flags of the countries participating in this edition of the world cup. Still ecstatic with Brazil’s victory over Switzerland, on Monday (28), the self-employed Álvaro Diniz, 58 years old, better known as Vea, tells how it all started. “It started with a flag, then we got the hang of it and started making the rug”. The money for the purchase of paints is made by collection. “The paint comes from the neighborhood, that paint that is stored in the back of the garage, which people will not use anymore, we also do a crowdfunding, because to paint this street, which is 250m, there is no way to have so much paint in the garage! ”, jokes the decoration organizer, 58 years old, who has lived on the street since he was born. There were more than 30 people involved in the painting and three weekends of work. “We gathered the group, there are more than 30 neighbors and friends who come from outside to help. For us to stay calm and watch the games, there were three weekends of painting: Saturday and Sunday we closed the street, it was the whole day”. The designs come from various treetops, says Vea. “We honor Brazilian artists and idols, we have Cascão, Mônica and Pelezinho, by Maurício de Sousa, because many children come to see the street and like them. There are caricatures, there is even Tite [técnico da seleção], the kids love it. We have idols, like Pelé, Neymar and even Seninha and MacLaren from Senna”. Pre-painting requires organization. “My niece, Larissa, chooses the drawings and prints them, then we trace them on the paper, as if it were a checkerboard, then we trace the drawings with the plaster, draw the line and finally paint. The most detailed people get the most complex drawings, but we all paint. Three drawings were made by friends of ours, who did it directly by hand, they are true artists”. The oldest resident of the street, retired Reinaldo Ávila Queiroz, 92 years old, approved the painting of the place. “This decoration is beautiful. I’m just watching the mess, the people painting here. It really looks beautiful, for me it is one of the most beautiful streets in the capital”. Guesses Vea believes that Brazil will reach the finals, but has to change the lineup. “If Tite changes his game, for an Everton Ribeiro, to put an articulation equal to Neymar, for Rodrigo together, if it works out, I think I will continue in my 3 x 0 for the next game, for the selection to take off, right? . Brazil deserves it! We’ve been painting for seven years, we want to see Hexa!”. It’s a lot of joy in the games, he adds: “We get together, have a barbecue to watch the games, it’s really cool!”. Already the guess of the neighbor Reinaldo Ávila Queiroz is of 2×0 for Brazil. “This year Brazil arrives at the sixth championship, and the next game will be 2-0 against Cameroon!”, believes the retiree. . It will be the last game for Group G.
