Higher education entities reported today (1st) that the blockade of R$ 366 million in the funding of universities and federal institutes has been suspended. Resources had been frozen since Monday (28), when several educational institutions received notices freezing the budget until the end of the year. The release of funds was informed by the National Association of Directors of Federal Institutions of Higher Education (Andifes) and by the National Council of Institutions of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education (Conif). On social media, Andifes reported that the decision brought relief, but that the entity “will continue to be attentive to the risks of new cuts and blockages and will maintain dialogue with all the actors necessary for the construction of the budget and policies necessary for the maintenance and fair financing of public higher education”. The Ministry of Education did not comment on the unblocking or inform if the remaining amount blocked in the folder will be released. Last night (30), the Ministry of Economy disclosed details of the cut of R$ 5.7 billion by ministries, announced last week. The most affected portfolios were Health, with BRL 1.435 billion blocked, and Education, with BRL 1.396 billion. Only the Ministries of Economy and Justice and Public Security were spared from the new cuts. On Tuesday (29), the Ministry of Education had informed that it was seeking alternatives with the Civil House and the Ministry of Economy to reverse the blockade. Also on Tuesday, the secretary of the National Treasury, Paulo Valle, had informed that the contingency would be reassessed throughout December, with the publication of an extra edition of the Revenue and Expense Assessment Report.
