Free public transport for seniors over 60 years of age in the city of São Paulo is back in effect as of today (15), according to a decree by Mayor Ricardo Nunes, published in the Official Gazette. To enjoy the Special Single Ticket benefit for the Elderly, you must register with SPTrans, proving residence in the municipalities that make up the metropolitan region of São Paulo. According to SPTrans, the presentation of the general registration (RG) directly on the buses will only be accepted while the electronic ticketing systems are being prepared to meet the resumption of gratuity for the beneficiaries. The end of gratuity for these passengers was determined in February 2021. At that time, only people aged 65 and over could access the benefit. The change affected not only municipal buses but also intercity buses, subways and trains. The alteration established by the City Hall and the government of São Paulo was announced in December of the previous year. Before, people over 60 years old could use the transport free of charge.
