The government of Rio de Janeiro concluded this Tuesday (31) the process that makes it possible to sponsor just over R$ 9 million for the 12 samba schools of the Carnival Special Group. The investment will be made by the Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy (Sececrj) via the State Culture Incentive Law, and the amount will be divided among the associations. “Carnival is the main event on the Rio de Janeiro calendar, when the entire state welcomes tourists and travelers from all over the world, promoting more than just our culture, but the entire service sector, ensuring a boost to the economy. It is essential for us look at carnival with these two concepts: appreciation of cultural identity and opportunity to generate employment, income and collection. The party will be beautiful and everyone is welcome”, said Governor Cláudio Castro. The Independent League of Samba Schools (Liesa) requested the funding, possible from the tax waiver with a Declaration of Sponsorship (DEP). The mechanism works by granting a tax benefit to companies that pay the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS), guaranteeing the reversal of the waiver of amounts invested in cultural projects and financing of Rio de Janeiro’s art. Just like last year, Light fulfilled all the requirements and will once again partner with the state in financing the party. The Secretary of State for Culture and Creative Economy, Danielle Barros, said that “the search for the democratization of access to the portfolio’s resources goes directly through the strengthening of the State Law of Incentive to Culture”. “We work to promote, help structure and celebrate the culture of Rio de Janeiro. We cannot fail to exalt our identity”, she added. In addition to the amount that will be allocated via the Culture Incentive Law, the government launched, in November last year, the Folia RJ 2023 package, with four public notices, totaling an investment of around R$ 12 million for the carnival. Of this amount, R$ 4.3 million are destined exclusively to samba schools, through the program Não Caminha o Samba Die. The projects are in the process of sending documentation, with a deadline in effect until February 9, for subsequent payment.
