The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes determined that the Federal Police (PF) hear the president of the Liberal Party (PL), Valdemar Costa Neto, regarding statements that he would have given about drafts of documents with a coup-like content. The period for questioning is a maximum of five days. In recent statements, when commenting on the coup draft seized at the residence of former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres, the president of the PL said that proposals with similar content were circulating among interlocutors of the Bolsonaro government, and that he himself would have received documents of this type, but that would have destroyed them. In the dispatch, Moraes mentions that “Valdemar Costa Neto’s statements, when he said that he had similar minutes with him, of a manifestly illegal and unconstitutional nature, must be clarified in the broader context of this investigation, notably with regard to adherence, by third parties , of possible coup intention, which can characterize the crimes provided for in arts. 359-M (coup d’état) and 359-L (violent abolition of the democratic rule of law) of the Penal Code.” The STF minister’s decision responds to a request by the PF itself which, on the grounds that the reported facts are connected with the anti-democratic acts carried out on January 8 and with the seizure of a coup draft in Torres’ house, made the request in this Tuesday (31). Also today, the President of the STF, Minister Rosa Weber, sent the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, a request to evaluate the opening of an inquiry to investigate Costa Neto.
