Another 1.8 million doses of CoronaVac were delivered today (3) to the Ministry of Health by the Butantan Institute. The immunizer is part of the National Immunization Program (PNI) for vaccination of the pediatric public in the country against covid-19. The production is made from the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (IFA) imported from Sinovac Pharmaceuticals, in China. According to the institute, these doses are part of the fourth purchase contract for 10 million doses, made in early 2022. The estimate is that, for immunization with the two doses provided for in the primary CoronaVac vaccination schedule for children in the age group of 3 to 5 years, about 12 million vaccines are needed against the disease. In the first contract of the Ministry of Health with Butantan, in September last year, 1 million doses were delivered to the children’s public, after approval of the use of CoronaVac by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). The second agreement took place in November, with the delivery of another 1 million doses. At that time, the suspension of pediatric vaccination was recorded in some states due to lack of immunization. In the third contract, 750,000 doses were sent in early January 2023, already under new management at the Ministry of Health. In January 2022, CoronaVac was approved by Anvisa for the population under 18 years of age, aged 6 to 17 years; and, in July, the vaccine was released for children aged between 3 and 5 years.
