The federal government should announce, in the next few days, a readjustment in the values of the National School Feeding Program (Pnae), according to information from the national secretary of Food and Nutritional Security, Lilian Rahal. The program provides for transfers of federal resources to states and municipalities, based on the number of students in each network. In January of this year, the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, said that the government was studying to increase the values, which, according to him, have not been readjusted for six years. Details on the new values, however, have not yet been disclosed. Currently, the resources transferred by the Pnae range from R$ 0.32 per day (for each youth and adult education student) to R$ 2 per day (for the full-time support program for secondary schools). Resources Other Pnae resources are: primary and secondary education (R$ 0.36), pre-school (R$ 0.53), specialized educational services after school hours (R$ 0.53), indigenous and quilombola schools (R$ 0.64), kindergartens (R$ 1.07) and full-time education (R$ 1.07). “School feeding is strategic so that children can have adequate food. We have more than 40 million children who are fed daily in schools. And it is important for these children to have real food so that we can have food security and lower rates of malnutrition”, said Lilian Rahal.
