The Ministry of Health will summon 117 doctors to assist indigenous communities. The professionals, Brazilian or naturalized trained abroad, are part of the Mais Médicos Project and will be called upon to reinforce the staff of the Special Health Districts for Indigenous Health (Dsei). The first doctors were received this Monday (13) and underwent training. According to the ministry, the doctors will be distributed among 29 districts, 14 of which will go to the Yanomami territory, in Roraima, which is facing a humanitarian crisis. According to the folder, the call represents an increase of 51.5% in the number of indigenous health doctors. Currently, there are 227 professionals in 34 DSEIs. “Indigenous people do not die of diabetes, because there is no sugar in their diet, nor of hypertension, because they do not consume salt. The cause of the deaths of our original peoples is hunger, malnutrition and malaria. Interventions are antibiotics, food, dignity and value to human life”, highlighted the secretary of Primary Health Care, Nésio Fernandes, in a note released by the folder. Starting next week, the first group will already be sent to the service units in the health districts. A second group will go through the reception program, update on indigenous health and, later, will go to the municipalities. According to the Ministry of Health, the announcement had been launched in July last year, with the possibility of calling from September of the same year.
