Registration for the selection of cultural entrepreneurs who will represent Brazil in the 7th edition of the Mercado de Indústrias Culturais Argentinas (MICA) is open until 6 pm on March 31st. The event takes place between the 1st and 4th of June, at Centro Cultural Kirchner, in Buenos Aires, and for the first time, the Brazilian government will take hip hop performers to business roundtables and training activities outside the country. Earlier this month, the Ministry of Culture (MinC) launched a public notice to select 90 cultural and creative entrepreneurs from nine sectors — audiovisual, circus, dance, theater, design (including fashion), editorial, hip hop, music and electronic games. The public notice will allocate R$ 793,000 to make it possible for those selected to travel to and stay in the Argentine capital, as well as their return to Brazil. Those interested in participating in the selection must register on the Mapa da Cultura platform. Until last Friday (17), more than 300 applications were received. “With the event, the Ministries of Culture of Brazil and Argentina hope to promote meetings between developers, programmers, editors, directors, producers, technicians and other cultural managers from all sectors. The proposal for joint work aims to advance a valuable bilateral agenda that links the sectors of the cultural industries, which stimulates commercial, artistic and intellectual exchanges between the two countries, and which promotes the association and complementation of the value chains of the economy of culture” , informed the MinC, on the occasion of the opening of the notice. When registering, cultural entrepreneurs must choose their participation profile, as seller or buyer. Among the evaluation criteria are the diversity, representativeness, inclusion and creativity of the proposals. The invitation to bid will also follow the criteria of regional distribution, in order to include at least one seller per Brazilian region, in each sector. The MinC also established regional criteria for the release of resources, that is, each selected person will receive the amount of support corresponding to the region in which they live, and must present proof of residence to verify the information. Values range from R$ 7,740 for the South Region to R$ 9,639 for those selected in the North Region. News The announcement is available on the Mapa da Cultura platform. In the hip hop area, for example, producers, groups, companies, collectives, associations, cooperatives, networks, agents, technical staff and artists, performance and multidisciplinary projects involving the elements of hip hop, which are individual or group breaking; individual DJ, group or beatmakers; graffiti; MC and individual or group beatbox; MC’s, beatbox, beatmakers, breaking and DJ’s battles; and other multidisciplinary projects such as debate, exhibition, artistic intervention, podcast experience, literature, lecture, soirée or slam. In a statement, the MinC explained that another novelty is that, for the first time in Creative Markets notices aimed at selecting cultural entrepreneurs, the performing arts are in separate sectors. “The change intends to guarantee the same number of openings as the other sectors for theatre, dance and circus, which until then ‘competed’ for openings within the performing arts sector”, he says. Created in 2011, MICA is the central event of the public policy system dedicated exclusively to the commercialization of products and services and to the strengthening of the different sectors of the cultural industry in Argentina, at an international level. The market has a program designed to strengthen institutional, commercial and artistic links between countries. It also aims to encourage meetings between government cultural institutions in Argentina and other nations, in addition to encouraging the celebration of cooperation agreements between public and private cultural institutions.
