A traditional festival in the historic city of Tiradentes, Minas Gerais, the Tiradentes Exhibition arrives for another edition in São Paulo. From today (23rd) until March 29th, the event will show 27 films in the Cinesesc movie theater, in São Paulo. Many films are new in São Paulo, but were already part of the 26th edition of the festival, which took place in January, in Tiradentes. Among the program’s highlights are six award-winning films in the January edition. Among them, As Linhas da Minha Mão, by João Dumans, which will be exhibited today at the opening of the event. The film is an experimental documentary, the result of a meeting between the director and actress Viviane Ferreira. Also on display will be the award-winning films O Canto das Amapolas, by Paula Gaitán; Patch, by Roger Ghil; Beers in the Dark, by Thiago A. Neves; The Clown’s Daughter, by Pedro Diogenes; and Nossa Mãe Era Actriz, by André Novais Oliveira and Renato Novaes. Another highlight is the film Alegria é a Prova dos Nove, by Helena Ignez, which features singer Ney Matogrosso in the cast. Alegria e a Prova dos Nove, by João Dumans, will be exhibited at the opening of the exhibition. – Cinesesc/Divulgation In addition to the screening of feature films and short films, the festival will also promote 15 chats after the sessions. “The strength of contemporary Brazilian cinema can be known in the annual editions of Mostra Tiradentes/SP which, in 2023, celebrates 11 years in the capital of São Paulo with the purpose of expanding new perspectives, voices and showing a multiple panorama of audiovisual production in Brazil. All sessions gain debates after the screening of the films with the presence of filmmakers, provoking reflection on the images and stories of cinema as a response to its historical time”, said Raquel Hallak, general coordinator of Mostra Tiradentes/SP, by means of a note. In the Cinema da Vela debate, the theme will be Cinema Mutirão: Laboratórios e Cinema de Grupo de São Paulo, which aims to discuss the current situation of the Brazilian audiovisual sector, weakened after the reduction of incentives and policies to promote cinematographic art in recent years , the new coronavirus pandemic, which temporarily closed movie theaters, and the consolidation of streaming oligopolies. In this debate, contemporary São Paulo cinema will be analyzed in its relationship with the processes of collective creation of other arts and ways of life. The debaters will be the filmmakers Helena Ignez, Leonel Costa and Filipe dos Santos Barrocas and the mediation will be in charge of the film critic João Paulo Campos.
