The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) sent, this Thursday (23), an opinion to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for Minister André Mendonça to be rapporteur for the request for suspension of social networks by federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL- MG). Currently, the issue is reported by Minister Alexandre de Moraes. The case involves a request by federal deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP) to block the parliamentarian’s accounts. The opinion was requested by the rapporteur himself. For the PGR, the issue must be decided by Mendonça, who is the rapporteur for other investigation requests against the deputy. The suspension was requested after the deputy’s speech on International Women’s Day, when Nikolas wore a yellow wig and said that “she felt like a woman. He also stated that “women are losing their space for men who feel like women”. For the LGBTQIA+ community, the parliamentarian committed the crime of transphobia in his speech. Transphobia is a form of prejudice against transsexuals that can translate into acts of physical, moral or psychological violence. After the episode, Nikolas Ferreira used social networks to deny any offense. “I defended the right of women not to lose their space in sports for trans people – given the biological difference – and not to have a man in the women’s bathroom. There is no transphobia in my speech. I elucidated the example with a wig. What passes from that is hysteria and storytelling,” he said.
