The ministers of the Environment, Marina Silva, and of Regional Development, Waldez Góes, are already in Rio Branco to visit the affected areas. They arrived this Sunday (26). In the capital of Acre, Góes guaranteed federal resources, although without specifying amounts. He said that more actions have become possible since the federal government approved the state of emergency in Rio Branco, in a decree signed and published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette on Saturday night (25). More than 32,000 people have been affected so far by the flooding of the Acre River, with 2,500 of them homeless or displaced. Until Saturday night (25), the measurement of the level of the Acre River was 16.37 meters, above the overflow threshold, which is 14 meters, according to information released yesterday by the municipal Civil Defense. Tião Bocalom (PP), thanked the federal delegation for the visit and said he was reassured by the speed of help coming from Brasília. “This agility makes us very confident that we will have the necessary financial support”, he said. Governor Gladson Cameli (PP) stressed the importance of unity in a time of emergency, despite political differences. “I have only one purpose, which is to try to reach the families that are most in need with the hand of the State”, said the state representative. So far, no deaths have been recorded as a result of the floods in Rio Branco. The capital of Acre is used to living with the monitoring of the river level and its igarapés that cross the city. In recent days, the water level has risen with speed, more than seven meters, due to the heavy rains that hit the North and Northeast regions. In Rio Branco alone, 203 millimeters of rain were recorded on Friday night (24), a volume close to that expected for the entire month of March. In all, the floods reached 30 districts. According to the Civil Defense, 24 shelters were mobilized to receive the homeless (people forced to leave their homes and who have nowhere else to go). In addition to Acre, at least five other states have also been affected and made homeless by the rains and floods. In Manaus, videos published on social networks show houses being dragged by the waters, for example. Other states affected were Pará, Rondônia, Tocantins and Maranhão. Until Saturday night, in Maranhão, for example, the state government had already recognized an emergency situation in 49 cities affected by the rains and floods. Even today, the federal government entourage is heading to Manaus, where there should be meetings with local authorities and visits to affected areas.
