Ordinance from the Ministry of Communications authorized the Post Office to apply a 5.49% readjustment to the price for sending national and international letters and telegrams, among other postal services provided by the state-owned logistics company. The authorization takes effect this Monday (3), with the publication of the ordinance in the Official Gazette (DOU). The increase corresponds to the variation of the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) between January and December 2022, as measured by the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), discounting the Productivity Factor (percentage of time an employee spends doing some activity for which he was hired). With the new prices, sending a national letter and aerogram costs from R$ 2.45 to R$ 13.45, depending on the weight, which can go up to 500 grams. In the case of national telegrams, prices range from R$10.29 to R$14.90, depending on the means used – internet, telephone or agency. The ordinance also published a new grouping of countries for the pricing of sending international correspondence. The last post office readjustment was in May 2022.
