Former president Jair Bolsonaro has a testimony scheduled for early this Wednesday afternoon (5), at the headquarters of the Federal Police (PF), in Brasília, about the three jewelry kits he received from Saudi Arabia. The details of the deposition are confidential. So far, all the hearings scheduled for the PF are all scheduled for the afternoon. The expectation, therefore, is that the testimony will be given from 14h. According to the PF, there is always the possibility of the hearings being done by video conference. However, in the case of the former president, there is no statement regarding this possibility. Yesterday, Bolsonaro’s defense team reported having returned, on the 4th, the third box of jewelry received from Saudi Arabia in 2019. The jewelry was delivered to Caixa Econômica Federal. Valued at R$ 500,000, the kit includes a Rolex watch. The decision complies with a determination by the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU). “The delivery reiterates the commitment of President Bolsonaro’s defense to return all the gifts that the TCU requests, complying with the guidance of the former president of the country, who always respected the legislation in force on the subject”, he said yesterday, via social networks, former president’s advisor, Fabio Wajngarten. Case Bolsonaro’s lawyers had already returned the second case, also by order of the TCU, which contains a watch, a pen, cufflinks, a ring and a type of rosary from the Swiss brand Chopard, valued at R$ 500 thousand. The jewels were not declared to the Federal Revenue when they entered the country. Estimated at BRL 16.5 million, the first box, with a necklace, ring, pair of earrings and diamond watch, was retained by the Federal Revenue, at São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport in 2021. The items were in the backpack of a advisor to the then Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, who was returning from a trip to Saudi Arabia. At the time, the advisor and the minister did not declare the objects at Customs, as required by law. Albuquerque said at the time that the jewelry was a gift for former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro.
