This Monday (1st) the union centrals will carry out a unified act of Labor Day in Vale do Anhangabaú, in the center of the city of São Paulo. The party, which brings together eight trade union centrals, starts at 10 am. Then there will be big music shows. Among the confirmed artists are Zé Geraldo, Leci Brandão and guests – Toninho Geraes and Almirzinho, Dexter, Edi Rock, MC Sofia, Ilú Obá de Min, Arnaldo Tifu, DJ Cranmarry, Samantha Schmütz & Gêmeos from the series. The presentations will be broadcast on Youtube and social networks of the trade union centrals. Participating in the organization of the event are the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT), Força Sindical, the General Union of Workers (UGT), the Central dos Trabalhadores e Trabalhadores do Brasil (CTB), the Nova Central Sindical de Trabalhadores (NCST), the Brazilian Trade Unions Central (CSB), the Working Class Central Intersindical and the Public. Security The entire area of the event will be fenced and at the access points there will be a search for bags and backpacks, in addition to metal detectors. Entry with cans and bottles, even plastic ones, and with sharp, perforating objects or fireworks will not be allowed. Drinks will be sold in disposable cups at the kiosks at the concessionaire that manages Anhangabaú. Claims This year, the trade union centrals bring as a priority agenda the valorization of the minimum wage. Another highlight is the end of “extortionate interest rates”, in criticism of the rise in basic interest rates. The unions also call for an end to the wage inequality between men and women, the repeal of part of the labor reform and the defense of public companies against privatization. Federal District In the DF, trade union centrals and social movements will hold two Labor Day celebrations. The Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT-DF) and the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) called for a political-cultural act in the central fair square of Ceilândia, the most populous administrative region of the DF. “The choice of Ceilândia as the place to celebrate the date was not by chance. In addition to concentrating thousands of male and female workers ─ which brings the CUT and affiliated unions even closer to the base ─ the city played a fundamental role in the construction of Brasília and, at the same time, over the years, it has consolidated itself as one of the main poles of social movements, culture, arts and resistance in the DF”, explained the entity. The other centrals, such as dos Trabalhadores do Brasil, Força Sindical, CSP Conlutas and CSB, in partnership with leftist parties and social movements, make the 1st of May unified at block 108, in Eixão Norte, central region from the capital. The agenda includes the demand for the end of the current Central Bank interest policy, the redefinition of Petrobras’ role and more investments in economic and social infrastructure. The 1st of May is considered the magna date of the struggle of workers around the world. It is a tribute to the Chicago martyrs, workers condemned to death for carrying out a strike to reduce working hours, in 1886. In Brazil, according to the CTB, the first celebration of May Day was in 1892, in Porto Alegre, one year after the decision of the Second Socialist International to consecrate the date as International Workers’ Day
