Eight people were denounced by the Public Ministry (MP) of Rio de Janeiro for the manslaughter of Raquel Antunes da Silva, 11 years old, in the dispersion sector of the Sambódromo, during the Golden Series parade of the samba schools of the access group at the Carnival of 2022. After the parade, Raquel was sandwiched between a pole and a float at the Em Cima da Hora school and even lost her right leg in a complex surgery, but ended up dying. The administrative president of the school, Flavio Azevedo da Silva; the president of Liga-RJ, Wallace Alves Palhares, and director Cícero Cristiano André; in addition to civil engineer Daniel Oliveira Junior; dispersion coordinator José Crispim da Silva Neto; the driver of the tow truck Carlos Eduardo Cruz; dispersion assistant Rodney Dionizio Melo; and League member Carla Ardelino. The Public Prosecutor’s Office reported that the defendants engaged in conduct that, due to malpractice, negligence or imprudence, resulted in Raquel’s death. The victim was on top of the allegory and was crushed when the open-wing float of the Em Cima da Hora school collided with a pole. Due to technical problems with the engine, the float needed the help of a tow truck to be transported from the dispersion area. According to the complaint, the car paraded without authorization from the Military Fire Department and there were not enough people in the dispersion area able to guide the trailer driver and escort the allegory to a safe place. The complaint was distributed to the 29th Criminal Court of the capital.
