The Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, will make a statement on national radio and television on Sunday night (7). The message, which should air around 8 pm, will highlight the declaration of the World Health Organization (WHO), which decreed the end of the Public Health Emergency of International Concern in relation to covid-19. According to the minister’s advisory, the idea is for her to emphasize that covid-19 is not over yet and that vaccination remains fundamental. After more than three years, the WHO declared last Friday (5) that covid-19 no longer constitutes a public health emergency of international importance. According to the entity, the virus is now classified as an “established and ongoing health problem”. “It is a great victory for society, made possible thanks to science and vaccination, oriented towards access to health. At the same time, the announcement does not mean the end of the circulation of the virus, but a change in approach. We still have to be careful , including vaccinating us against covid-19, which in many countries has become part of the annual calendar, such as vaccination against influenza”, wrote the minister, on social networks. Worldwide, the pandemic led to the death of more than 7 million people, a number that may be underestimated. In Brazil alone, the number of lives lost exceeded 700,000 people.
