The Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro reported this Saturday (13) that Archbishop Dom Orani João Tempesta was attacked in the northern part of the capital of Rio de Janeiro. He and the driver were left on foot on Avenida Brasil, after the car was taken away. Both suffered no injuries. The episode took place on Friday (12), around 10:30 pm, at the height of the Barros Filho neighborhood. They were returning from the Rosary for Peace, which was prayed in Bangu, and were moving towards the center of the city. In addition to the car, the cell phones of the archbishop and the driver, episcopal ring, vestments (mass clothes), crosier (staff), books and watches were taken. According to the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro, the victims were rescued by a couple who took them to the archbishop’s residence. Despite the assault, Dom Orani kept the commitments foreseen in his agenda unchanged.
