Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) is one of the winners of the VI Good Practices Contest of the National Network of Ombudsmen, coordinated by the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU). The result was announced on Wednesday (17). EBC took first place in the category Fostering Participation and Social Control by Populations in Situations of Vulnerability with Momento da Ouvidoria, a series of radio programs, lasting about one minute, that provide the public with information and analysis on the programming of EBC vehicles. The Ombudsman General of the Union, Ariana Frances, highlights the importance of disclosing and recognizing the innovative actions of the ombudsmen. “It is essential that the [instituições] winners feel this recognition by the Union General Ombudsman and, mainly, by their peers, the other ombudsman units, who will seek them out to exchange references. In this enriching process of exchange, we are certain that new and innovative initiatives can be born.” There were, in all, 67 initiatives registered in three categories. Participants received scores from 0 to 10 in each of the four evaluation criteria: creativity and innovation, cost-effectiveness, impacts of the initiative/contribution to effectiveness, simplicity and replicability. “The Ombudsman is essential in any public institution, and it is a strong reason for satisfaction to see that the EBC Ombudsman is fulfilling its role and has its work recognized”, says the president of the EBC, Hélio Doyle. Ombudsman Moment Created in 2019, the radio program takes into account the demands that listeners themselves make to the Ombudsman. The “pills” are aired on MEC and Nacional radios and encourage citizens to tune in to the stations and give their opinion on the content offered. By means of short waves, of greater power, information produced by EBC vehicles reaches remote communities and, in some cases, in vulnerable situations, mainly in the region of the triple border of the Amazon, through the radios Nacional da Amazônia and Nacional do Alto Solimões . Access the Ombudsman’s Moment here EBC’s assistant ombudsman Talita Cavalcante explains that EBC’s expertise in providing access to Rádio Nacional’s programming via shortwave was a differential in winning the award. “Using short waves to reach populations in the most remote areas of the country is an initiative that goes beyond the ombudsman bias. It is a social empowerment action. We return to the public, in the form of radio programs, the main manifestations that reach the Ombudsman.” Inclusive Ombudsman This is the second time that EBC wins the award. In 2021, the Inclusive Ombudsman project, aimed at the deaf public, was the winner in the Technology, Information Security and Personal Data Protection category and was champion of the good practices contest of the National Ombudsman Network. The Inclusive Ombudsman channel handles complaints from deaf users via WhatsApp. Compliments, complaints, requests and suggestions are sent on video in the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). Messages are received on WhatsApp from the Ombudsman, at the number (61) 99862.1971. The EBC Libras interpreters translate the content, which is passed on to the areas. With the information sent by the sector, a video in Libras is recorded and sent as a response to the citizen.
