The northeastern theater scene has gained a prominent place with the public in Rio, which has ensured the continuity of productions in Rio. One of the attractions is that of the actor and producer from Piauí, Vitorino Rodrigues, member of the group Truá Cia de Especções do Piauí, in season in the city until next Sunday (28). Vitorino Rodrigues, who investigates new theatrical writings in the Northeast, presents the monologue O Que Te Escrivo É Puro Corpo Inteiro, at Teatro Dulcina, in the center of the capital, with a text by Nathan Sousa and direction by Wellington Júnior. The text deals with the conflict of a professor of literature, writer and actor who, by clarifying his life story, makes a reflection on the relationship with students, readers, public and all the issues that are related to this socio-affective path. This is one of the examples of the arrival of theater productions from the Northeast to Rio, which are characterized by the diversity of themes. According to the producers, the idea that, in order to talk about the Northeast, one had to address only the drought and the misery of the people, ended. For the actor, this aspect resulted in greater visibility of the productions and strengthened the public’s interest in the Northeastern theater scene. Vitorino Rodrigues added that visibility has also increased with television, which has included more northeastern actors in soap operas and series and made productions with a cast formed, in the majority, by artists from the region. “There are several Northeasts and possibilities to exercise the performing arts that are there”, he said, in an interview with Agência Brasil. For the actress Quitéria Kelly, founder of Grupo Carmin, from Natal, although the regional theme is still approached, the borders are being broken, and the productions started to have more diverse themes.“There is a cultural complexity when talking about the Northeast, because Northeast seems to be just the regionalist thing, but the Northeast is multiple. Our group has never done a regionalist play, and it is still a northeastern group”, said Quitéria to the report. According to the actress, one cannot forget that each state that makes up the region has a specific culture. “When you talk about a Northeastern group, where do you talk about the Northeast? From Maranhão? It’s a completely different culture from Pernambuco, which is completely different from Bahia. So, it is very difficult to define what Northeastern theater is, because it no longer fits into these regionalist ties. We are talking about everything. The themes are diverse, ”she said. Producer Mariana Areia Leão Hardi echoes the issue of regionalization. For Mariana, the productions are standing out with various themes. “To box everything in drought is to summarize a huge spectrum such as the Northeast Region”, she told Agência Brasil. Mariana pointed out that the increase in Northeastern productions in the Southeast is not restricted to theater, but also occurs in the cinematographic area, in a process of self-knowledge of the class, which seeks to impose itself in other regions without being in a negative way. “Each time such a work occurs outside its axis, it inevitably provokes reflection and discussion, making the public more available to visualize and understand.” “It is a continuous work, a process of recognition that our work is worthy, well done, can reach anywhere and that our product dialogues with the public”, added Mariana, who is also involved with the proposal of a laboratory by the producer Casa da Praia Filmes, scheduled for the period from June 26th to 30th, with 15 projects from all over the Northeast, which will be chosen through a public notice. The authors will spend a week in Natal working on their feature film projects. The names of the chosen ones will be announced next Friday (26). Public Notices In the view of actor and producer Vitorino Rodrigues, cultural support public notices contributed to the increase in productions in the city. “With that, the groups have somehow managed to finance themselves to circulate, because it is not easy to circulate”, he said. Quitéria recalled that, for about ten years now, there has been more and more constant presentations by groups of artists from the Northeast in Rio and stressed that this is also a reflection of the public notices. According to the actress, the panorama of public notices began to change at the time when Gilberto Gil was Minister of Culture, in the first term of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. At that moment, the government took the decision to spread the notices throughout all regions of the country, which avoided the concentration of beneficiaries in the Rio-São Paulo axis, as used to happen. She said that Grupo Carmin is now participating in Sesc’s Palco Giratório, a project for the dissemination and exchange of scenic arts, which takes circus, dance and theater productions to various cities in the country. In the 17th edition, which is taking place in Porto Alegre, Carmin is on the program with the play A Invenção do Nordeste, awarded in Rio last year and well received by the public. “He [Palco Giratório] is one of the great promoters of the circulation of shows from both the Northeast and the North throughout the country. The shows rotate the entire map, allowing the Southeast public to get to know productions from the North, Northeast and South.” The actress lamented the reduction in the number of festivals that help in the emergence of new groups. For Quitéria, festivals are still an open door for independent producers to invest in groups and other audiences to have access to the production that is being made in the Northeast. “The production is very active in the Northeast and has long-standing groups. There is a group in Rio Grande do Norte that has 45 years of history. There’s a lot. There is the Macaxeira Group, in Ceará, Sertão, in Paraíba, and Carmin, in Rio Grande do Norte. Now it has the people from Casa de Zoé, who have arrived in the Southeast with a lot of force and are also from Rio Grande do Norte. So, there is a legal movement that is trying to get here and it has struggled, but it has managed to do it”, concluded the actress.
