Nutrition and education professionals are in Brasilia to learn about successful national and international initiatives on food and nutrition education. The 2nd International Congress on School Meals starts this Tuesday afternoon (23rd) and will bring together, until May 25th, in the auditorium of Instituto Serzedello Corrêa (ISC), of the Federal Court of Auditors, more than 350 participants from Brazil and 13 other countries in Latin America. According to the organizers, the 20 best Brazilian experiences identified by the 4th Journey of Food and Nutrition Education, promoted by the National Education Development Fund of the Ministry of Education (FNDE), will be presented. Discussions involve programs aimed at food in schools and in their surroundings. Among the successful international initiatives are school feeding programs that have been implemented in El Salvador and the Dominican Republic. During the meeting, the Consultative Group and Management Committee, composed of government and civil society entities, will be reinstated to support the implementation of the National School Feeding Program (PNAE). “The resumption supports and develops important actions related to the promotion of public purchases of family farming within the scope of the program”, informed the Ministry of Education in a note. The idea is to develop specific inter-ministerial actions to qualify and expand the percentage of purchases of foodstuffs directly from family farming.
