The national influenza (flu) vaccination campaign immunized only 40.69% of the target public. The mobilization – started on April 10th – ends this Wednesday (31st), but the Ministry of Health released an orientation for states and municipalities to expand the calendar and continue with immunizations, while vaccine stocks last. “I want to call everyone’s union for our National Movement for Vaccination, a movement of the Ministry of Health, states, municipalities and the entire civil society. Science is back and we need to regain the population’s confidence in vaccines. This is a mission for all of us”, said the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, through the note released to the press on Monday night (29). Serious cases According to the Ministry of Health, immunization helps to avoid serious cases of the disease. The latest government data show that 35.2 million doses were applied, which reached 40.69% of the public formed by groups of elderly people, children aged six months to five years old, pregnant women, health professionals, puerperal women and teachers , between others. Amapá achieved the best coverage, reaching 85.2% of the target public, and the only one to surpass 75%. Acre, with 19.3%, and Roraima, with 24.3%, were the only states to reach less than 25% coverage. The city of Rio de Janeiro announced that it will extend vaccination beyond the 31st. Anyone over six months old can be immunized. In the city, the flu vaccine is available at 237 Primary Care units (family clinics and municipal health centers), from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm.
