The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) swore in today (30) two effective ministers appointed last week by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. On Wednesday (24), the names of lawyers Floriano de Azevedo Marques and André Ramos Tavares were accepted by Lula hours after the Federal Supreme Court (STF) sent a quadruple list approved by the Court to the Presidency of the Republic. Lawyers Edilene Lobo, linked to the PT in Minas Gerais, and Daniela Borges were also on the list, but they were passed over from the nominations. According to the Constitution, it is up to the President of the Republic to appoint the lawyers who compose the court. Vacancies were opened last week, after the departure of two ministers. Sérgio Banhos stayed in the position for four years and could not continue in the position for having completed the maximum period of two bienniums allowed. The second chair became available with the departure of Minister Carlos Horbach, who could be reappointed for another two years, but chose not to be among the names that ran for permanence. The change of seats at the TSE takes place before the trial that could make former President Jair Bolsonaro ineligible. The action in which Bolsonaro is accused of using a meeting with ambassadors, held in July 2022, to attack the electoral system should be judged soon. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, in addition to other Judiciary authorities. Composition The TSE is composed of seven ministers, three from the Federal Supreme Court (STF), two from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) and two lawyers with notorious legal knowledge. In addition to the new ministers, the effective vacancies belong to Alexandre de Moraes, current president, Cármen Lúcia and Nunes Marques. Gilmar Mendes, Dias Toffoli and André Mendonça make up the vacancies of substitute ministers from the STF.
