A theme that generates divergences and controversies will gain more time for debate in the country. The Ministry of Education (MEC) informed, this Tuesday (6), that it will extend, for another 30 days, the public consultation for the evaluation and restructuring of the national secondary education policy. The extension came into effect on Monday (5). According to the MEC, the deadline was extended taking into account requests from institutions such as the National Education Council (CNE), the National Education Forum (FNE), the National Forum of State and District Education Councils (Foncede) and the National Council of Secretaries of Education (Consed). In a joint letter, the entities asked the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, to extend the consultation, so that “the necessary conditions for the application of all listening instruments and the widest social participation” are guaranteed. that the extension request serves the public interest and is “consistent with the purpose of expanding the scope of the ongoing public consultation, meeting a legitimate aspiration of giving the opportunity to participate to all those who still want to contribute to the public debate raised”. The executive director of the non-governmental organization (NGO) Todos pela Educação, Olavo Nogueira, said that the justification is adequate, as long as there are even a few days of extension. “It is important that this movement does not weaken the sense of urgency in relation to the need to advancement of the subject”, said Nogueira. For him, the wait for decisions about secondary education generates uncertainties in the lives of Brazilian students. “Some issues generate repercussions in the very short term, as is the case of the National Examination of Secondary Education [Enem] of 2024. A delay can weaken the importance of moving forward quickly.” According to Nogueira, this is a decision that needs to be presented as soon as possible to guarantee peace of mind and safety for education professionals and students. Also, because the 2024 school year, as he explains, involves planning and a lot of organization. “These are movements that are not made overnight.” Principles The director of the NGO Todos pela Educação assesses that the principles of the reform are very positive, which would include three aspects: an increase in the workload, a change in the curriculum architecture with a more diversified curriculum and the search for greater integration of professional education with teaching average regular. “These would be movements that bring us closer to what countries with more solid educational systems already do”, he emphasized.
