During the 2023 Corpus Christi holiday, three people died in accidents on Brazilian federal highways. In 2022, two deaths were recorded in the same period. According to a balance released this Monday (12) by the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the number of accidents was 45% lower, totaling 11. The number of injured people was 11, which represents a reduction of 41%. compared to 2022. PRF actions resulted in the approach of 2,726 vehicles and 2,984 people, in addition to “various situations of risk and infractions” that resulted in 1,232 assessments. The most common infractions highlighted by the PRF were prohibited overtaking (106); lack of seat belt use (58 cases); and lack of a helmet in motorcycle drivers (50 occurrences). 1,878 breathalyzer tests were carried out, which resulted in the prosecution of 14 drivers for driving “under the influence of alcohol”. In several parts of the country, police teams made drug seizures; and stolen and tampered vehicles. The PRF highlights, among the cases, what happened during the inspection of a bus that was going from the North Region to Fortaleza (CE). In it, the agents found, “hidden in the luggage of a 26-year-old passenger, born in Pará and with no criminal record, about 6 kilos of ‘skunk’ marijuana and approximately 1 kilo of pure cocaine”.
