The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC), announced this Wednesday (14) the offer of 8,000 places in the specialization course Science é 10. The course is aimed at teachers who teach science in the final years (6th to 9th) of elementary school in the public network. Of the total, more than 3,000 vacancies will be opened in August this year, and 5,000 in 2024. Distance learning is carried out by Capes in partnership with 18 higher education institutions, located in 13 states. At the end, teachers receive a certificate from the MEC. With three modules and a load of 480 hours, the course aims to expand the knowledge and methodologies of teachers in the themes of life, environment, universe and technology. In addition to promoting professional qualification, other objectives of the specialization are to awaken scientific curiosity and interest in technological careers among students, encourage the sharing of knowledge through participatory and innovative learning, and improve student performance in the International Assessment Program for Students (Pisa) in the field of science. “We know that investments in science and technology create a virtuous circle in the economy of countries, but we often forget the investments that must be made at the base, that is, in the training of our children and adolescents”, said Minister Luciana Santos (photo ), adding that initiatives such as the course contribute to making Brazil a more competitive, inclusive and sustainable country. The president of Capes, Mercedes Bustamante (on the left in the photo), said that the institution is working to take the course, created in 2017, to regions of the country that have not yet been covered, such as the North and Northeast.
