The Collective Filhas da Mãe and the District Forum of the Civil Society in Defense of the Elderly held projections in public buildings in the federal capital this Thursday night (15) to mark the World Day of Awareness on Violence against the Elderly. With photos and phrases in defense of the elderly, the images were projected between the National Theater and the Brasília Bus Station, at the Palácio do Buriti, seat of the district government, and at the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District. According to the organizers, the initiative aims to draw attention to the violations suffered by Brazilians over 60 years of age, such as mistreatment, abandonment, negligence and physical, psychological, financial and sexual violence. This is the third year of the action. Data from the Ombudsman of the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship indicate that, in the first five months of 2023, 37,441 complaints of negligence, 19,987 of abandonment, 129,501 of physical violence, 120,351 of psychological violence and 15,211 of violence were registered by the Dial 100 financial against the elderly person. There was an increase in all indicators compared to the numbers for the same period last year.
