The inauguration of the North-South Railroad, in Rio Verde, Goiás, which would take place this Friday (16), will be rescheduled. Due to bad weather in the city of Goiás, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s aircraft would not be able to land there. According to the Presidency of the Republic, Lula waited for 1h20 at the Brasília Air Force Base, but could not take off for Rio Verde. He returned to the Alvorada Palace and in the afternoon, as planned, traveled to Belém, in Pará. In the capital of Pará, the president participates in the official announcement ceremony of Belém as the host of COP30 in 2025. He will also sign the service order for the start of works on Porto Futuro II. Earlier, in the city of Abaetetuba (PA), Lula will deliver a residential property for Minha Casa, Minha Vida. Norte-Sul Railway The inauguration of the terminal in Rio Verde by the company Rumo, concessionaire of the Norte-Sul Railway, marks the completion of works on the railway connection considered the backbone of the Brazilian rail transport system, as it connects the ports of Itaqui, in the Maranhão, to that of Santos, in São Paulo. The works lasted more than 35 years. Construction began in the second half of the 1980s. In all, the complete railway is 2,257 kilometers (km) and crosses four regions. The terminal in Rio Verde is strategic, since the municipality of Goiás is one of the main centers of agribusiness in the Midwest.
