Who is attending the last year of high school in 2023 in a public school; who attended all of high school in a public school or on a full scholarship in the private network, in addition to having a family income, per person, equal to or less than one and a half minimum wages; and those who are in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability because they are members of a low-income family that is registered in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico), in addition to having a family income, per person, of up to half a minimum wage or monthly family income of up to three minimum wages. What is Enem? The National High School Examination evaluates the academic performance of students at the end of basic education. Established in 1998, Enem has become the main gateway to higher education in Brazil, through the Unified Selection System (Sisu) and initiatives such as the University for All Program (Prouni). Public and private educational institutions use Enem to select students. The results are used as the sole or complementary criterion for selection processes, in addition to serving as parameters for applying for student loans in government programs, such as the Student Financing Fund (Fies). Enem’s individual results can still be used in the selection processes of more than 50 Portuguese educational institutions, which have an agreement with Inep to accept exam scores. The agreements guarantee easy access to the grades of Brazilian students interested in studying higher education in Portugal. Enem data also make possible the development of studies and educational indicators, important in the elaboration of public policies.
