Task Force releases email for reporting crimes on Discord

The Attorney General’s Office provided an email address for victims to contact the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the state of São Paulo (MPSP) to register complaints against unlawful acts of intolerance and misogyny committed through virtual and electronic means on the Discord platform. The action is part of the task force created in May by the Attorney General’s Office to combat these crimes. “It is important to emphasize that these are criminal acts and not just challenges committed by children and adolescents. Discord offers voice, text and video chat and is widely used by gamers to communicate with friends and other users when playing online. The app, however, has been used by criminals to circulate violent content. Similar to WhatsApp, the application gives the user the possibility to enter different chat rooms with friends or unknown people. In the resolution that established the task force, the Attorney General of Justice, Mario Sarrubbo, considers that children and adolescents, always female, are subjected to abusive sexual practices, through application providers, social networks from different communities and online electronic games, where illicit content is displayed to users through chat. The MPSP investigation has consequences in the criminal sphere and in the scope of collective protection.
