The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) resumes this Friday (30) the judgment that could lead to the ineligibility of former president Jair Bolsonaro for eight years. The Court will open the fourth consecutive session for judgment of the case at noon. The court judges Bolsonaro’s conduct during a meeting held with ambassadors, in July last year, at the Alvorada Palace, to attack the electronic voting system. The legality of the meeting was questioned by the PDT. On the occasion, the meeting was broadcast on TV Brasil, a public communication channel of Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC). After three trial sessions, the score is 3 votes to 1 for the ex-president’s conviction for abuse of political power and misuse of the media to spread false information to discredit the voting system. The session will resume with the vote of Minister Cármen Lúcia. If the minister votes to condemn Bolsonaro, a majority of four votes will be formed for ineligibility. Then, the voting will proceed to take the last votes, to be cast by Nunes Marques and Alexandre de Moraes. The plenary is composed of seven ministers. Divergence So far, the only vote in favor of Bolsonaro was cast by Minister Raul Araújo, who opened the divergence and voted to dismiss the action against the former president as he understood that the meeting was not serious enough to generate condemnation of ineligibility. “The meeting was not large enough to justify the extreme measure of ineligibility. Speculations and other conclusions are not enough to build the causal link and the legal qualification of the abusive act. Contested behavior leads to the inescapable conclusion for lack of sufficient gravity,” he concluded. Yesterday (29), Bolsonaro said he expects a fair trial and no revanchism. Braga Netto On the other hand, the TSE has already formed a majority of four votes for the acquittal of Braga Netto, candidate for vice president on Bolsonaro’s ticket in the 2022 elections. . His name was included in the process by the PDT.
