After passing through Europe, Australia and the United States, the exhibition The Art of Banksy: Without Limits arrives in Rio de Janeiro, after a season in São Paulo, where it will be shown from Thursday (13) to September 24 at the VillageMall, in Barra da Tijuca, west zone of Rio de Janeiro. The Art of Banksy: “Without Limits” brings together more than 150 works by the street artist, including prints, photos, lithographs, sculptures, murals and video installations, made specifically for this edition. A video documentary offers visitors information about the life and work of the artist whose identity remains unknown. The works are distributed in 14 environments, including a room dedicated to Ukraine, with his most recent interventions made in an area bombed in the war with Russia. His works have a strong political and social content of criticism of exacerbated consumerism and wars. “The exhibition was prepared so that, at various times, people can feel inserted in the environment of some of his creations, being with him at the moment and in the place where his art was generated”, said Rafael Reisman, artistic director of the exhibition . “Banksy is an artist who provokes curiosity. The fact that he is an anonymous artist provokes even in other artists a certain jealousy for the grandiosity of someone that nobody knows who he is”. Check out the image gallery Banksy is a celebrated British street artist who uses his art to question society’s values. His works are spread across cities around the world, such as Bristol, London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, New Orleans, and also in countries like Ukraine and Palestine, among others. Banksy (Robin Banks) was born in Bristol, England, supposedly on July 28, 1974, according to the British press, but this information has never been proven. He hides his face and always appears with a hood. The mystery about his identity is maintained with the help of a group of collaborators who go so far as to set up fences around the artist to protect his identity. Banksy’s art began to emerge in Bristol in the late 1980s and his murals are easily found on the streets of his city. In the 1990s, his works attracted attention due to the use of the stencil technique, in which the design is applied through a cut in the paper through which the ink passes, guaranteeing speed in the work. In his works, the artist, in addition to painting ironic figures and catchphrases on the walls of buildings and walls, leaves messages laden with social and political content. Banksy visited Palestine a few times and each time he left his art scattered across the city walls, including the mural Soldier Throwing Flowers (2005), which shows a man with his face covered by a scarf throwing a bunch of flowers instead of a cocktail. molotov, and Stop and Search (2007), painted in Bethlehem, where the artist reverses roles by exposing a soldier leaning against a wall being searched by a girl. The Art of Banksy: Without Limits can be visited from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 10 pm and Sundays and holidays from 12 pm to 10 pm.
