Fundação Casa informed that 12 cases of scabies were identified among young inmates of six units of the institution in the state of São Paulo, in the last two months. According to the institution, the young people diagnosed received treatment and are doing well. Sanitary measures were also adopted to prevent new cases of the disease. “The foundation also determined the review of all hygiene and health procedures in the six centers where the cases were registered and initiated a preliminary investigation to clarify all the facts related to these occurrences”, he informed, in a note. Regarding the cleaning of teenagers’ clothes, the foundation informed that it follows a strict cleaning process, recommended by the Sanitary Surveillance’s Laundry Clothing Processing Manual, with eight stages for cleaning: wetting, pre-washing, washing, bleaching , neutralization, rinsing and drying. The president of the Association of Servers of the Casa do Estado de São Paulo Foundation (Afcesp) pointed out the need for a medical evaluation of young people as soon as they arrive at any of the institution’s units. According to him, the initial health assessment is done superficially, with only questions and answers. “The hospitalized young person, when he arrives, does not have a reception from a doctor. What are we asking you to join [a chegada com exame médico]and change it,” he said.
