Swimmer Ana Marcela Cunha finished the 10 km race in fifth place at the Fukuoka World Championship, in Japan, late this Friday night (14) – Brasilia time. The Olympic champion of the race tried to recover in the final part, but ended up closing the distance in 2 hours, 2 minutes, 42 seconds and 5 hundredths. But in the video decision of the judges, the American Katie Grimes was only two hundredths faster and took the bronze. And the Dutch Sharon van Rouwendaal was fourth, just one hundredth ahead of the Brazilian. The German Leonie Bech was champion and the Australian Gubecka took the silver. The other Brazilian in the race, Viviane Jungblut, was in 26th place, with 2 hours, 5 minutes, 5 seconds and 8 hundredths. The first three placed in this event have already secured themselves in the Water Marathon of the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. In this world championship, Ana Marcela will still swim the 5 km, to try for her third world championship, on Monday night (17), at the from Brasilia. The next chance to qualify for the Olympics in the Aquatic Marathon will be in Doha, Qatar, in February next year. On that occasion, the top 13 will qualify. The best from each continent will also have guaranteed places in Paris.
