Climate change specialist Suzana Kahn will take over this Monday (24th) as the director of the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Engineering Research (Coppe), at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She will accumulate the role of chairman of the scientific committee of the Brazilian Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). “We intend to reorient Coppe to bring it in line with the world that is in the energy, digital, environmental and social transition. We seek to establish some goals to remain at the forefront”, said Suzana, who has a degree in mechanical engineering. Artificial intelligence Among her projects is the creation of the Coppe Center for Artificial Intelligence, a partnership with the city of Rio that will provide space for the former Automóvel Clube, in the center of the capital. “Coppe aligns itself with a new economy with the issue of the digital revolution that has a transversal approach. In the space, there will be training activities for professionals in the area and the incubation of companies with a technological base of artificial intelligence, robotics, in partnership with private companies. The idea is to transform it into a hub organizing the teams”, said the researcher. She added that, in the second semester, nanotechnology and biomedical laboratories will be inaugurated. “The idea is to strengthen the interaction between engineering and health, with biotechnology and health startups in partnership with the private sector. Prostheses and skin, there is much to be done in these new frontiers of knowledge that we intend to boost”, she emphasized. “We want to reinforce innovation and entrepreneurship. We want to help transform ideas, projects that are still on the academic bench and take them to the market, becoming a company”, concluded Suzana.
