Singer Leny Andrade died on the morning of this Monday (24), at the age of 80. She was hospitalized at the Hospital de Clínicas de Jacarepaguá, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro. The cause was not disclosed. The death was confirmed by the advice of Retiro dos Artistas, where the singer has resided since 2019. There is still no information about the wake and burial of the artist. Leny Andrade began his professional career in 1958, working as a crooner in the Permínio Gonçalves orchestra. In the 1980s and 1990s, she divided herself between Brazil and the United States, where she recorded several samba-jazz albums, including the classic Luz Neon. She also released CDs in partnership with renowned instrumentalists, such as César Camargo Mariano, Cristóvão Bastos and Romero Lubambo. She had several hits on the Brazilian charts, and in 2007 shared a Latin Grammy with César Camargo Mariano for Best Live MPB Album. In 2018, she celebrated 60 years of career with performances by the Clube do Choro Convida project, accompanied by guitarist Luiz Meira. He sang the songs that became remarkable in his career, such as We are there (Durval Ferreira, Maurício Einhorn), Rio (Roberto Menescal and Ronaldo Bôscoli), Céu e Mar (Johnny Alf), Influência do Jazz (Carlos Lyra), Contigo Aprendiz (Armando Manzanero), in addition to Tom Jobim’s pout-pourri, with Este Seu Olhar, Triste, Vivo Sonhando and Você vai ver and Garota de Ipanema. In August 2022, she recorded, with pianist Gilson Peranzzetta, the song Por Causa de Você (Tom Jobim and Dolores Duran), released as a single by Mills Records in January 2023 in celebration of her 80th birthday.
