President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will participate in the Amazon Summit, on August 8 and 9, in Belém, Pará. The event will bring together the presidents of eight countries in the region. According to Lula, the objective is to build a joint position that will be taken to the United Nations climate conference, COP28, in the United Arab Emirates, between November 30th and December 12th. “Brazil, the countries of South America that are part of the Amazon, plus the two Congos [República do Congo e República Democrática do Congo] that we invited to come to the meeting, plus Indonesia, are the countries that have a lot of forest reserves. So, what we want is to tell the world what we want to do with our forest and say what the world has to do to help, because they promised US$ 100 billion in 2009 and until today that US$ 100 billion has not come out”, he said during the Conversation with the President program. Still in August, Lula travels to South Africa where he participates, from the 22nd to the 24th, in the BRICS Summit – a bloc that brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. On September 9 and 10, the president will be in India for the G20 Summit, a group that brings together the main economies of the world. Brazil will receive the group’s temporary presidency for 2024. On September 19, Lula opens the debate session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York. On the occasion, according to him, a job generation program between the countries will also be launched.
