President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said, this Tuesday (25), that the Centrão does not exist and that he will speak individually with the parties about the participation of each one in the government. According to him, this will provide peace of mind for voting on matters of interest in the National Congress. “I don’t want to talk to Centrão as an organization, I want to talk to the PP, the Republicans, the PSD, the União Brasil, that’s how we talk. And it is normal that, if these parties want to support us, they want to participate in the government and you try to find a place to put [no governo], to give the government peace of mind in the votes that we need to better improve the functioning of Brazil. This is exactly what will happen”, he said in the weekly program Conversa com o Presidente, on Canal Gov. According to the president, all over the world democratic governments make party agreements, but that in Brazil this is treated as a policy of “it is given that is received”. For Lula, people have “a lot of good will to make things happen” and, therefore, have the right to ask for participation in the government. “And I think it’s entirely possible. We’re going to discuss that over the next few days. I’m not worried, I haven’t had any conversations with anyone yet,” he revealed. “When I talk, I will be very interested in letting the press know because there is no confidential conversation in my political life,” he added. Lula highlighted, however, that it is not the party that chooses the ministry that will be occupied, it is the President of the Republic. Recently, for example, the president discarded the change in command at the Ministry of Health, commanded by researcher Nísia Trindade, former president of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). According to Lula, the so-called Centrão is the gathering of a group of parties in certain situations. “I don’t gather Centrão, Centrão doesn’t exist”, he said. “They were born in the 1988 Constituent Assembly, which did not want the left to advance too far, so when we were voting for many social rights, the Centrão was created. That is, all the most conservative parties have joined together, they are represented there in 50 parties, ”he explained.
