The arrest of the suspect who threw the beer bottle whose shrapnel hit Palmeiras fan Gabriela Anelli, on the 8th, was possible due to the intelligence work carried out by the São Paulo Civil Police, said the director of the Department of Homicide and Person Protection (DHPP), Ivalda Aleixo, this Tuesday (25). The case happened during a confusion recorded before the match between Palmeiras and Flamengo involving fans of both teams. The young woman, hit in the neck by shards from the bottle, was rescued in a serious condition, but could not resist and died the next day. According to the director, the man was identified with the help of images captured by security cameras in the vicinity of the point where the confusion occurred and cameras at Allianz Parque. A virtual reconstruction was also used, which included drones and scanning of the entire scenario where the event occurred. Jonathan Messias Santos da Silva, 33 years old, who is a teacher, married and has a son, was arrested early this morning, at home, in the Campo Grande neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro, by DHPP police. The investigations also had the support of other units, testimonies of several witnesses and other images. DHPP experts were able to isolate the bottle throw and individualize the behavior of each fan. It was then possible to identify the man among the Flamengo fans who were at the scene. “The conduct was individualized, it was identified that the person who threw the bottle was a man with a beard. He enters the stadium soon after, is then identified by the stadium’s facial recognition. He is the only person who plays in the bottle at that moment when Gabriela is hit. He is very well identified”, explained the director. According to Ivalda, it was also possible to isolate the sound and hear the noise of the bottle hitting the left side of the metal gate and breaking seconds before Gabriela was hit on the other side, but very close and at the angle that the shards arrived. Investigators then observed the suspect walking back to a van and changing the gray T-shirt he was wearing for the Flamengo shirt. The delegate of the Homicide Division of the DHPP, Antônio Carlos Desgualdo, pointed out that although there were other objects thrown, such as glasses, ice, there is no doubt that the bottle thrown by Jonathan was what hit the fan, causing a small wound of about 3 cm. “We tried to capture the largest number of images and we synchronized the images with the sounds. From there, we were able to identify when the fan arrives, when the confusion starts, when he leaves, when he changes clothes and leaves. Afterwards, he returns to the stadium to watch the game. On the basis of this synchronization of images and sounds we can rule out the other possibilities. All done with expertise, in the most technical way possible”, said The suspect had his cell phone seized and will be presented to the DHPP in temporary custody later today. He must be heard as soon as he arrives and undergo a custody hearing this Wednesday (26), if applicable. He has no passage through the police and is not part of large organized supporters. Investigation The São Paulo Civil Police had initially arrested Leonardo Felipe Xavier Santiago, but the São Paulo Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPSP) asked for the preventive detention to be revoked and forwarded the inquiry to the Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP) for further investigation. The request was accepted by the Justice and the young man was released on July 12. Prosecutor Rogério Zagallo, responsible for the case, justified that the videos taken to the Public Ministry show a bottle being thrown by another person. The diligence was therefore able to identify the true author of the pitch.
