The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Luís Roberto Barroso decided today (29) to shelve a request by opposition parliamentarians to investigate President Jair Bolsonaro for the alleged attempt to interfere in Petrobras. In June of this year, parliamentarians asked the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to open an investigation based on a journalistic article that had access to an alleged conversation on WhatsApp between the former president of Petrobras Roberto Castello Branco and the former president of Banco do Brasil Rubem Novaes, in which it was said that there were elements that “could incriminate” the Chief Executive. In the decision, Barroso understood that the case should not proceed due to the filing request made by the PGR in September. “In view of the above, I welcome a ministerial opinion to determine the shelving of the procedure, due to the absence of just cause”, he decided. After receiving the request for an investigation, the deputy prosecutor of the Republic, Lindôra Araújo, held a hearing with those involved, who denied having mentioned crimes involving the president. “Roberto Castello Branco stated that the messages that incriminated the President of the Republic were nothing more than conversations referring to fuel prices and the appointment of directors, facts that were widely publicized. reduction in fuel prices, which actually occurred”, says the opinion.
