The Olympic Park, which hosted the main competitions of the Rio 2016 Games, will be transformed into a public leisure area, with plenty of space for sports and recreation in the shade of hundreds of trees. The start of the works, this Thursday (2), was accompanied by the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, and the Minister of Sports, Ana Moser. The site will gain new landscape elements, children’s toys, gym equipment, sports courts and new urban furniture. The Via Olímpica will receive over 900 trees and 16,000 bushes, new sports courts and squares, renovation of the skate park, wet square and colored floors. There will also be new urban furniture, such as 465 tables and chairs, 27 children’s toys, 14 gym equipment and 14 bicycle racks. The City Hall is going to invest BRL 36 million in the Via Olímpica, which is expected to be inaugurated in March 2024. The information is from the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro.
