The Federal Police launched an operation to combat illegal gold extraction and environmental crimes in Pará mining concession, issued by the National Mining Agency (AMN) and which also does not have environmental licenses”, informed the PF. According to the investigation, the suspect’s financial transactions point to the existence of intermediaries in the sale of illegally extracted gold. The investigation also indicates that the businessman sought to erase evidence of environmental crimes. For the PF, the entrepreneur’s freedom puts obtaining evidence and criminal prosecution at risk. The investigation began with a complaint from residents near the farm and information from the company Xingu-Rio. During the inspection of the 4,448 power towers, the company realized that gold extraction was approaching the transmission line. The police also said that the expertise carried out during the operation should give a more accurate estimate of the environmental damage. The value takes into account the expenditure necessary to restore the environment. In September 2022, the PF had already served a search and seizure warrant on the farm and made three wheel loaders unusable. Those involved must respond, to the extent of their responsibilities, for environmental crimes, usurpation of union assets, and criminal association.
