Tax reform working group hopes to approve PEC by June

The working group (GT) responsible for tax reform in the Chamber of Deputies presented, this Wednesday (1st), the work schedule for the final report of the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) to be presented by May. According to the rapporteur for the proposal in the Chamber, Deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), the House must work towards the promulgation of the text of the PEC still in June, before the parliamentary recess. “What we are doing in this WG is seeking to build convergences and suggestions so that we can present the report in the second half of May”, stated Ribeiro. The rapporteur of the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution said that he intends to hold a broad debate before taking the text to a vote in plenary. “This alignment, this leveling is essential so that the whole of society is aware of this debate and, in particular, the members of the working group. We are going to detail the impacts of this reform on consumption taxes to benefit all of Brazilian society”, said Ribeiro. Among the objectives of the tax reform are the increase in income and the generation of jobs, explained the rapporteur. “Brazil needs a tax system that is simple, transparent, has legal certainty and is regressive, so that the poorest do not pay so much tax, to the detriment of the rich who end up paying less”. After the meeting, the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), called deputies from the working group and confirmed the intention to vote, in plenary, on the PEC of the tax reform until mid-May. The group should discuss PECs 45 and 110, both with the aim of simplifying taxation on consumption and unifying taxes.
