Five workers in degrading conditions were located this Thursday (2), in Salvador, Bahia. According to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, this is work similar to slavery, as they were found bagging charcoal in the Cassage region, a neighborhood in the capital of Bahia, and were subjected to an exhausting journey to reach the stipulated goal. According to labor auditors, they worked more than 12 hours a day, producing up to 1,000 bags of charcoal, earning just 16 cents per bag. According to the complaint, these people had no contract record, nor unhealthy additional. Auditors found that employees worked only in slippers and shorts, without potable water and the sanitary facilities had no door, washbasin or seat. Meals were taken in the same shed where coal was bagged. Afterwards, the coal was transported to other companies and distributed throughout the state. According to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the auditors are negotiating for the company to pay the due labor rights.
