Federal police and inspectors from the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Resources (Ibama) destroyed this Thursday morning (23) dredger rafts used in illegal gold mining in the Javari Valley, in Amazonas. According to the Federal Police (PF), the work is part of Operation Tucandeira, which aims to identify, approach and disable these rafts. The PF stressed that currently all gold mining activity in the Javari Valley is illegal and that, therefore, the actions of “disintrusion of this important waterway will continue to be carried out, as well as being extended to other regions of illegal mining detected in the state of Amazons”. The vessel will serve as a support point for carrying out various works to prevent and repress crime in the region.
