A 51-year-old man was rescued, this Monday (27), in degrading working conditions in Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense. According to the city hall, agents from the Municipal Environmental Guard (GAM) went to check a report of irregular pig farming and found the worker in a subhuman situation. “According to the victim herself, the owner of the land and animals offered her work in exchange for shelter. However, Geovani Dias Cardoso, 51 years old, lived in precarious hygienic conditions and fed on the same wash served to pigs for over a year”, informed the Nova Iguaçu city hall. In addition to the work situation analogous to slavery, GAM agents found other irregularities: illegal slaughter of animals, dispersal of viscera on the bank of a river, contamination of the soil by worms and food in a state of putrefaction. The site was banned this Tuesday (28). The case was registered at the 58th Police Station (DP) of Posse. In addition to work analogous to slavery, the owner of the place can be investigated for environmental crimes, potentially polluting activity and mistreatment of animals. According to the note from the city hall, the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance welcomed the victim and is trying to locate the family.
