The use of face masks to prevent covid-19 is no longer mandatory in places that provide health services and hospitals in the city of São Paulo. The information was given earlier this Tuesday night (4) by the Municipal Secretary of Health. According to the secretary, the measure could be taken because of the high vaccination coverage against covid-19 in the population of São Paulo. The city government’s decision was announced shortly after the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) released a technical note making the use of masks more flexible in hospitals across the country. According to Anvisa, the change was possible after the number of cases and deaths from covid-19 reduced in the country. Although it is no longer mandatory, the city of São Paulo continues to recommend the use of a mask, especially in cases where the person suspects that he has covid-19 or has the disease confirmed. Its use is also recommended for people who have maintained close contact with someone who has been diagnosed with the disease and also for health professionals responsible for screening patients, as well as visitors and companions in hospitalization areas.
