The deadline given to mayors, governors and managers to update information about works stopped on the Mãos à Obra platform was extended to April 24th. In March, this mechanism was created by the federal government to map, identify and resume stalled works across the country. According to the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic, this update is “essential so that the government can provide the necessary resources for the completion of each work”. Mãos à Obra is a monitoring platform that allows city governments to update a database with “paralyzed or unfinished” projects that are considered a priority, according to local managers, in order to make the resumption of works feasible. “The list to be presented by mayors and governors should prioritize social equipment aimed at Health, Education, Sports and Culture, such as squares, schools, daycare centers and health centers, in addition to housing units from the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Program and projects that integrate the portfolio of the Ministry of Cities”, informed the Civil House when launching the platform. Job generation It will be up to the Civil House – guided by the Presidency of the Republic and in partnership with the ministries – to analyze the works and define which ones will be resumed “immediately”, in order to “boost initiatives focused on job creation”, as well as align “actions with economic and social development throughout the country”. The federal government clarifies that unfinished projects that had their data updated by March 10 will begin to be evaluated by government technicians. “Meeting the demands presented by local managers will take into account the order in which information is sent to the platform”, he informed, through a note. According to the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, in the area of Education alone, around 4,000 works were stopped. Many of them are from kindergartens, schools and health centers.
