The President of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Rosa Weber, authorized today (2) the transfer of Minister Dias Toffoli to the Second Panel of the Court, the collegiate body responsible for judging the cases of Operation Lava Jato. The vacancy on the collegiate was opened with the retirement of Minister Ricardo Lewandowski. With the transfer, the new minister who will be appointed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will compose the First Panel of the Court, and will not judge the processes arising from the investigation. Among those quoted to replace Lewandowski is lawyer Cristiano Zanin, who acted as the president’s defender in the Lava Jato processes. In addition to Toffoli, ministers Gilmar Mendes, Nunes Marques, André Mendonça and Edson Fachin will also make up the collegiate. Last month, Lewandowski compulsorily retired at the age of 75, the age limit for remaining in office.
