The Federal Supreme Court (STF) resumed this afternoon (3), in Brasilia, the judgment on the legality of the pardon granted by former president Jair Bolsonaro to then federal deputy Daniel Silveira. The analysis of the issue began last week, but only the parties to the process were heard by the Court. No minister even cast a vote. In May of last year, Bolsonaro signed a decree granting constitutional grace to the sentence of former federal deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ), a supporter of the then president and member of his base in the Chamber of Deputies. The decree was published on April 21, one day after the parliamentarian was sentenced by the Supreme Court to eight years and nine months in prison for the crimes of trying to prevent the free exercise of powers and coercion in the course of the process that responds to virtual attacks on the STF. After the publication of the decree, opposition parties appealed to the Supreme Court to reinstate Silveira’s conviction. According to the captions, the measure was illegal in order to benefit him.
